The concept for the Silver Birch Resort started in 2010 when a group of childhood friends agreed to meet annually with their families at various hotels and campgrounds throughout the state of Michigan. Hotels did not provide the closeness and emotional connection desired, so camping quickly replaced hotels. Camping brought the desired intimacy, but it had its downsides. Many of the spouses did not like having to “rough” it. A hot shower, some air-conditioning, and on-demand hot coffee would have made the trips more enjoyable. Once these amenities were available, it became easier to get the group to commit to next year’s get-together.
Two of the friends began discussing the possibility of developing a resort that offered the benefits of camping while having the amenities of a quality resort. One of the friends, Rob Evina, owns a company that builds unique, custom furniture and has experience in digital marketing. The other friend, Mark Grattafiori, is a licensed builder and electrician who operated a successful electrical and HVAC company for years before retiring. Combining the two friends’ talents has produced the Silver Birch Resort – a resort unlike any other in Michigan.
A beautiful 75-acre tract of land was found just a few miles east of Traverse City, and the dream for Silver Birch Resort was put in motion. It is our goal for guests to have a unique, intimate interaction with nature while having all the comforts of home.
